Several PD studies have reported one or more of the end-criteria, but none have provided a full content validation of the test. Content validity of the VO 2-max test is assessed by the attainment of five end-criteria (one primary criterion and four secondary criteria), but according to a recent review, this has not been thoroughly investigated in pwPD. When interpreting the results of a VO 2-max test, knowledge on key psychometric properties of the VO 2-max test (i.e., validity and reliability) is crucial. Ī VO 2-max assessment performed during an incremental exercise test to exhaustion (VO 2-max test) is considered the gold standard when assessing cardiorespiratory fitness in healthy subjects and it is also frequently used in PD exercise studies. Nonetheless, no solid conclusions can currently be drawn regarding VO 2-max levels in pwPD compared to healthy controls due to sparse and conflicting existing data. This is potentially critical, as the VO 2-max is considered an important health and performance indicator for pwPD, with evidence showing associations between VO 2-max and fatigue, as well as with mortality rate in the general population. This may cause deconditioning and may subsequently result in lowering of the cardiorespiratory fitness (VO 2-max).
